Norwich hosts Vermont ASCE Geo-Institute meeting
Norwich University brings Vermont engineers, faculty, and students together to explore geological challenges, emerging technologies, and advances in geotechnical research.
Norwich University recently welcomed nearly 40 engineers from across Vermont for a meeting of the Vermont American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Geo-Institute, bringing together professionals, faculty, and students from Norwich’s civil engineering and construction management programs.
The evening featured presentations on landslides, debris flows, and ongoing geological mapping efforts in Vermont. Ben DeJong, Emma Myrick, John VanHoesen, Eshan Ghazanfari, and Callie Ewald shared their work and expertise, giving students a firsthand look at current geological and geotechnical challenges facing the state.
Professor Jack Patterson also highlighted Norwich’s upcoming drone program and the University’s drone technology capabilities, including potential applications in engineering, construction, surveying, mapping, and infrastructure assessment.
A highlight of the evening was the recognition of Norwich Professor of Geology George Springston for his decades of service to the State of Vermont and his extensive contributions to geology and landslide research.
The event provided Norwich students with an opportunity to learn from and connect with practicing engineers and geologists from across the state. Special thanks to Professor Adam Sevi and the Vermont ASCE Geo-Institute for organizing the event and to all of the speakers for sharing their expertise with the Norwich community.
